Colm Oman has been working with us here at Campion Insurance for the past three years. Colm originally joined us as a sales agent. We asked him for the inside story on his career with Campion so far – here’s what he had to say.
Tell us what do you do? I am currently the Personal Lines New Business Manager. I manage 20 staff members across our 11 offices. My team provides quotations for insurance products such as Car, Home & Van
Describe your typical working day.
My role involves analysing statistics, problem solving by liaising with insurers & continuous coaching and mentoring of staff to ensure clients are being provided with the best service
What are your qualifications?
I am CIP Qualified. Campion have been so supportive to me throughout my exams with both financial support and study leave. I am currently studying to obtain my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt through the company.
What is the best thing about your job?
Continuous growth and development of the staff I manage as well as progressing my own knowledge and experience. Regular courses such as the Campion Business School ensures I am reaching my full potential as a manager and provides me with the skills to best support my own staff’s development
And the biggest challenge?
There are many challenges in my job which is why I enjoy it so much. I feel the biggest challenge & the greatest reward comes from training new staff. As new individuals start their Campion careers, I help to train them and provide market knowledge which can be very time consuming and demanding as everyone has their own learning style and previous knowledge they may hold. However, I thoroughly enjoy the satisfaction of helping team members reach their full potential.
What is your next step in your Campion Career?
It is still early days in my current role so right now all I am thinking about is improving & learning. The senior management team and Jim Campion himself have been very supportive in that regard and will always encourage me to take that next step when I am ready
What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with you?
As much as I acknowledge qualifications and achievements, what I value the most is attitude. When recruiting someone I look for hunger, passion and eagerness to improve and succeed in every task they may face throughout their role.
